Millie-Beth Wright

I am a Digital Artist from London and graduated with a First Class Honours in BA Fine Art at the University of Leeds in 2021.
My practice is primarily projection mapping and visuals with graphic drawing. My process of making is cumulative. Every day, I document the locations I encounter by taking photographs and one-second videos. I project my drawings and animations back into an environment and bring the architectural forms specific to the site into focus, accentuating what is already there by highlighting the outlines and contours that initially excited me.
Large projections create a level of intimacy and involvement between the viewer and a space, instilling a sense of familiarity and a feeling of connection. Light work and events bring communities together which is something I find particularly exciting.

I curate, plan and deliver large scale digital projects. I perform live site specific and audio reactive visuals mapped into spaces alongside a live DJ performance. To create visuals, I work with video editing software such as premiere, photoshop and InDesign. I then use TouchDesigner, Resolume, Projectors and Sound Booth equipment to deliver the installation.

The use of XR situates my work within art practices that comment on the ubiquitous nature of technology in our everyday lives and a merging of the actual with the virtual. I also draw on the use of projection in live events outside of art, as these events are focused on the experiential. Through the audience’s experiential interpretations, each viewer places an additional layer onto my work.
