Pigeon Alley

Alley, snicket, passage, back street, twitten. Every village, town and city has a notorious walkway and many of them have been conquered by armies of flying vermin, the pigeon.

I have walked through the same pigeon infested passageway for over a decade. No amount of plastic wire and council-built roofs keep the pigeons away from their smelly nesting spot. It is such a quick short-cut that most locals use it. They speed up their pace, hold their breath and hope they don't get pooped on or attacked.

Alleys can often have a stigma attached to them too. They are places to be aware of and lanes to avoid when it gets dark.

Anchor Lane is unique to Lancaster and holds its own tales and stories. The alley I use has no name but my family have always called it Pigeon Alley. A place we dread and are amused by in equal measures. In our own way, we have reclaimed this alleyway with our Pigeon tales.
