ILLUSION ROOM
As a group of 12 artists we had the opportunity to recreate rooms and the spaces within a building full of asbestos, before it was to be pulled down.
We put on a show called 'Sensory Stimulation', which acted as an experiential viewing experience as the audience passed through each room.
My room was about visual deception, I created a large-scale installation room to challenge the viewers perception of reality. What already existed as an ordinary office space was to be changed into a distorting environment.

Suffering from migraines can cause distorted vision and can be manipulated naturally as well as artificially. I created illusion drawings and worked with how scale and dimension affect the impact of vision.
I painted all the walls white and used black electrical tape to create the illusionary bending effect. the window ledges, corners and radiator become lost in the black lines. Especially as the reflective floor mirrors these lines as well. Viewers were invited to wear a virtual reality headset which played a looping illusionary animation. Once they had watched this in the closed off environment of the headspace they then were exposed to the full scale of the room. As id they had stepped into the illusion in the animation.
