Finer feelings
Under our female collective Ladies Lovin', Ruby and I created a piece of work together to submit for the our zine 'Womanhood'. This zine consisted of artwork, music and literary works from 22 female creatives and was produced to be sold and distributed on Independent Women's Day 2021. We raised over £500 with all proceeds going to Women's Lives Leeds.
We decided to make something that was in line with what we were doing in our own artistic endeavours, separate from Ladies Lovin’. Ruby had been working on producing music and I had been focusing on animations and projections in my artistic practice. This is where we decided that I would create the visuals and Ruby would create the sounds, to produce a Ladies Lovin’ spectacular.
I started by creating a set of drawings that represented my life living in a house full of girls in Leeds. My university home environment is something I treasure and this is due to the amazing female support network that I have. My artistic practice is made up of drawings and animations that depict my environments, as I am constantly responding to what I am seeing. For this piece I drew the ladies that I am living with, some of the things we do and the environment in which we live in to turn them into a short insightful animation. The style, colours and pace of this animation is supposed to create a feeling of nostalgia and connection. Ruby’s track accompanies this feeling so well. We hope that some of you can relate and connect to this piece, especially whilst we are all so far removed during the pandemic. We also hope that this sense of nostalgia will create a sense of hope and excitement for yourselves to look forward to a year that seems more promising.
